We all have our favourite products to keep our skin feeling it’s best in the colder months. For so long, my foundation of choice through the Winter has been Bare Minerals’ Complexion Rescue. It gives a very natural light to medium finish and is so hydrating. My skin in the winter tends to dry out really quickly and I need to step away from all things matte to give it the moisture it craves.
Well, now a new product has stepped into the ring and wants to claim superiority. I started using the Younique BB Complexion Enhancer in August and love how nourishing it feels and I love the coverage it gives.
Honestly, they’re very similar products, and on the 4th December last year I decided to put them to the test! The lives are still available over on my Facebook group, but I wanted to share my results here too, and they may surprise you.
Before we begin, let’s give a little bit of info on each product. Bare Minerals’ Complexion Rescue claims to increase skin hydration over time, and has an SPF of 30; which makes it ideal in the Summer. It retails at £28 for 35ml, and comes in 14 shades. In comparison the Younique BB Complexion Enhancer is a Gel foundation meant to give a lightweight coverage. It has no SPF and retails at £30 for 50ml, and comes in 6 shades.
Upon application both products applied nicely. I forgot how cooling the Bare Minerals foundation is but coverage was identical on both sides and my other makeup items applied beautifully on top of the gel-like formulas. Goth give a gorgeous medium coverage. Yes, some red patches do shine through, but this is how I like my foundation to look. I don’t like a product with too heavy a coverage.
Throughout the day, I noticed very little difference in the fading throughout the day. The only place that faded quite quick was around my nose, but since I had a cold at the time, this was always going to wear away.
Overall, both products perform exactly the same. The only true differences were in the size of the product and SPF. If SPF is important to you, you’re better off with the Bare Minerals foundation. If you want 15ml more for £2, and SPF isn’t a major factor to you (maybe you get it in your skincare), go for the Younique foundation. As for the shade range, yes Bare Minerals do have more, however looking at the full range there are definitely more shades available for light to medium skin tones. The Younique range only has 6, but they seem to cater for a wider clientele.
I love both of these foundations. They give me the coverage that I need, and keep my skin hydrated throughout the day.
