Hi everyone, how are you? I hope you’re well.
I love makeup; as if that’s a massive secret! And one of the things that I have an absolute nation of is lip products. I just love how different formulas vary between companies, and there are definitely ones that I prefer over others.
Summer, when it comes to lips, holds reign over the bright and beautiful pops of colour, the lipglosses and the lighter, pretty shades. Autumn, on the other hand, we tend to associate with a darker gothic tone. I wonder if Halloween has anything to do with that.
When I was researching trends for my Autumn Look Book, which will be posted throughout September, I noticed quite a few lip related trends coming from the runway, and some actually surprised me!
I’ll start with one that most of us tend to associate with Autumn; the iconic berry lip. Dark, berry tones look beautiful teamed up with the bronze shades we pop on our eyes and look gorgeous with glowy skin. Whether its a more stained berry lip or a full-on bold lip look, berry tones will never get old in Autumn.
Like berry tones, red lipstick isn’t going anywhere! It’s one of those classic colours that you can reach for at any time throughout the year. However, on the runway, most models were wearing matte red lipstick. Mattes do last longer, and there are a fair few formulas available that won’t dry out your lips. I love Bobbi brown’s Red carpet; I’ve had this one for ages. If you do prefer something lighter, there are some lovely matte lip stains about.
Now this is one that I didn’t expect to see in Autumn. The glossy lip is something that I associate with Summer. However, the glossy lip seems to be creeping into Autumn this year too. There are some beautiful shades available if you still prefer a bolder lip at this time of year. I tend to pop one over matte lipsticks if I do happen to have a more drying formula. However, if you’re not a fan of lip gloss, you can get hold of sheerer glossy lipsticks, which are not as sticky as a traditional gloss.
When I was looking at this trend, the models have beautiful bronzed skin, and they also wore darker neutral lip colours. I love these matte bronzier tones. They match the colours that we’ll be getting in the trees soon, and there an ideal shade for people uncomfortable with berry tones. You can still wear a darker lip, but you’re staying neutral.
I doubt the no makeup makeup look will ever go away. There’s something so satisfying about a minimalist look. I love it because it means my skin care is working and my face isn’t a hot mess. These lipsticks match the natural colour of your lips, but at that something extra, which is what I love about minimalist makeup looks.
Which lip trend will you be wearing this season?
Have a lovely day guys, and take care!
