January Reads

Hi everyone! How are you today?

As I mentioned in my January favourites, I’ve started a reading challenge for myself on Good Reads. I’ve challenged myself to read 60 books by the end of the year.

I want to try and discover some new authors. Lately, I’m in a bit of a hangover with books by reading the same authors over and over again. So this year I’m trying to find some new authors to enjoy.

In January, I made a pretty good start in my challenge and I’ve read 12! This is a combination of audio book and regular books, and there were ones that I enjoyed more than others.

Today, I wanted to share some thoughts on the kindle books that I discovered this month. I might do a separate list for audio books one day!

Okay… This book was….. Interesting! It tells the story of a woman who is taken in by the royal family to be a companion, or Escort, to a Prince. I was enjoying the book until a moment halfway through what completely ruined the book. I won’t say much but the event is completely used for shock value and forgotten about 2 chapters later. It has put me off reading the rest of the series, but I liked the world, and wouldn’t mind seeing what happened next.

This book is amazing! It is a Beauty and the Beast retelling. It reminded me a little bit of The 10th Kingdom with its main character coming from our world and stumbling into the fantasy world. I really enjoyed this one and read the sequel a few weeks later.

Holy shit, this book was dark! I read The Sculptor ages ago and loved it. This one was super creepy with a very intriguing villain who has been murdering men through implement. And it describes every death in specific gory detail. I wanted to be sick at times, but I loved the story!

I read this after watching the series. I loved this book so much! Diana did so much research to get historical Scotland right, and I love her characters. Jamie Fraser is my new book husband; he is both sexy and adorable! I will read the next one eventually but I’ve got a massive list of books to get through this year!

I loved this book! I have never cried so much at a book in a long time. It broke my heart! It’s short but so beautiful. If you have ever gone through a loss of any kind, give this a read.

I have read this several times now and still love it! This story follows a glass worker working on a giant pyramid, however something dark lurks to destroy their world. It’s so good, and I recently found out it’s a prequel to one of Sara’s series, so I will be reading that later in the year.

I love Val Mcdermid’s books but this one took some getting into. It felt like several different stories until 2/3 of the way through. It was a struggle but I ended up enjoying it in the end. I’m curious how the series will continue in the future.

I enjoyed this one more than the first one. I really like where the story went and I’m looking forward to the third book. I was a bit disappointed that the main character from the first book was a side character in this one, but I liked the new characters introduced in this one.

I loved Red Queen! The ending had me shocked! I really enjoyed the fact that it was a fantasy book that had modern technology in it; it made a change from the usual medieval fantasy worlds that I’m used to!

And I’m finishing on a one that I hated. This book was so bad! It’s only 200 pages but I took a long time to read it. The world isn’t really described and the characters are very basic. All actions are pretty much described in an A to B sort of way. I hated it and it has put me off reading any more of her books in the future.

And those are all of the books I read in January. What books have you read this month? Or are you doing any challenges this year?

Have a lovely day guys, and take care!

Bye for now!
